Spitting up in babies

Hello dear parents

 You all must have noticed that babies under 6 months age spit up regularly, mostly after having feeds. Many times they are having continuous hiccups. Sometimes they cry constantly for about 2 hours, usually in the evening.

 At that time we look for help, a little worried and concerned but then the entry of our elderly people comes with lots of reassurance, home remedies, and the words.

Words like “ don’t worry baby is growing” or “it’s good for the health” or “baby is gaining the length” or" it’s common among babies of these group” etc, etc( believe me I also had these advices )

 But the fact is-” this is common but not normal”. Just recall a day when you suffered from hiccups( I am sure everyone at least once in their lifetime had experienced bad hiccups). how you felt that time??? done with all types of home remedies. In the last don’t even remember how we get the relief. Now imagine the baby who is suffering from this(hiccups or spitting) in a day and many times in a month and also not able to tell that please help me it’s not normal.

 Due to immature gut, babies feel few reflexes, sometimes due to trivial reasons like, sensitivity towards food taken by mom and sometimes serious reasons causes spitting in babies, hiccups, abdominal pain resulting irritable, fussy, crying and distressed baby. Sometimes home remedies are good but we should know the reason behind it as a little change in electrolytes, salt, and sugar content below 6 month age of baby can adversely affect their kidneys and liver.

 If this is a case before passing a comment like -it' s normal/ giving a home remedy do visit a lactation consultant or pediatrician for proper examination and to find the real cause behind it.

 Once we are sure that there is no serious medical concern a little change in lifestyle, feeding position, diet change, etc and sometimes medicine can help our bundle of joy - the baby as well as it relieves a lot of pressure from feeding moms, and they can enjoy the motherhood -without any worries.
